Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory is a U. S. Government-owned, contractor-operated search & development facility located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, USA, focusing on the design & development of nuclear power for the U.S. Navy. A facility is operated by Bechtel Bettis, Incorporated, a all owned subsidiary of Bechtel. Bechtel won a contract to start a laboratory inside 1999; prior to that a plant was operated by Westinghouse.

A laboratory designed a power plant at Shippingport, Pennsylvania, the first commercial nuclear power plant in the United States.

BAPL supports the development and use of advanced propulsion systems for U.S. Navy Vessels by performing basic research; testing new components; and providing technical expertise during construction, maintenance and refueling.
