Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory is a U. S. Government-owned, contractor-operated search & development facility located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, USA, focusing on the design & development of nuclear power for the U.S. Navy. A facility is operated by Bechtel Bettis, Incorporated, a all owned subsidiary of Bechtel. Bechtel won a contract to start a laboratory inside 1999; prior to that a plant was operated by Westinghouse. A laboratory designed a power plant at Shippingport, Pennsylvania, the first commercial nuclear power plant in the United States.
